Press Release for Accessible Home

Uniquely "Normal" New Home for Sale in Edneyville

Three bedroom, two bath, 1650 square foot ranch with attached two-car garage. Nothing unusual there. And if you go inside, it looks just like many other homes with similar specs. Unless you are riding in a wheelchair. Then it lights up like a Christmas tree.

There are two ramps, to the front door and in the garage. The hallway is straight and wide. Interior doors are all wider than usual. But the highlight is the master bathroom. It has room to turn around (a five-foot circle), a roll-in shower with special two-lever controls, access around and bars behind the toilet, knee space under one sink, reachable outlets, a safety door, and a phone next to the toilet.

The home has many other special features, all designed to make living easier for everyone, including a lowered, roll-under counter in the kitchen, accessible washer and hot water valves in the laundry room, and an electric stove with front-mounted controls.

"Universal Design" principles were used throughout this "Easy-Living" home. The goal, to modify an existing design as little as possible and without increasing the cost, was met and exceeded. This approach can be applied to homes of any size, and will result in easier, safer living for everyone including those with disabilities.

The home is in Edneyville, NC. For more information, contact Betsy Smith at Century 21 Mountain Lifestyles, 828-884-6873.
