Health Insurance Open Enrollment Begins November 1

Information courtesy of The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and Healthcare.gov

Do you purchase your health insurance from the Affordable Care Act marketplace? The open enrollment period for 2018 health insurance begins November 1, 2017. Starting this year, open enrollment is significantly shorter, and will end on December 15, 2017.

If this will be your first time purchasing health insurance from Healthcare.gov, there are several things you can do before November 1 to get ready to apply:

• Get a quick overview of the Health Insurance Marketplace
• Learn how to estimate your income for your application
• Use this checklist (PDF) to gather documents you’ll need

Consumers may have a more difficult time getting health insurance from the federal marketplace, as Healthcare.gov will be shut down for maintenance for 12 hours a week, every week, during the open enrollment period. If you have trouble using Healthcare.Gov, you can also apply by phone by calling 1-800-318-2596 (Voice) or 1-855-889-4325 (TTY). You may also have in-person help in your area.
