"…Fifth Freedom has done a good job of including consumers in policy decisions… I’ve found that people are more willing to get involved on a state and national level if they can first get involved in something close to home… Fifth Freedom gives consumer advocates that local connection…"

America has become a standard to the nations of civil rights, liberties, and equality. From our country’s birth, advocates have labored diligently for the betterment of society. Susan B. Anthony was an advocate for the rights of women to vote and elect public officials; Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks were advocates for changing views of racial equality; Labor rights, such as the 40-hour work week and overtime pay, were influenced by several key advocates. These and other individuals understood that equality is a principle, not a privilege. They were primarily concerned for the rights and welfare of others. They made a profound difference in the lives of all Americans. They stood up for what was right—and not often popular—and weathered the storms of adversity.

Fifth Freedom members are people with disabilities advocating for themselves and others. We understand the challenges and obstacles that people with disabilities face in their communities, employment, and personal lives. We are actively engaged in building coalitions that empower people with disabilities to make positive changes. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life in home, community, and employment. We are confident that our efforts will create necessary changes as they have in the past, and it is our pleasure to stand as advocates in this important cause.

Please help us by gifting $5 or more to Fifth Freedom as we move into spring. Your gift will allow more advocates to work together for change, make improvements to accessible transportation, increase ADA compliance in local communities, enhance services to people who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and more. Your contribution can be made at www.fifthfreedom.org under the “donations” link or mailed directly to us at the address listed in the left-hand column.
